Nota ringkas Building better sentences

Setiap hentian memberi murid satu kad fakta selepas lulus. Ini kad bagi unit ini:

• who / which / thatwho = for people (the girl who sings). which = for things (the book which I read). that = for people or things (the book that I read).
• prepositionsin front of, behind, next to, opposite, near, into, out of, towards, past, over, against. They tell us WHERE something is or goes.
• passivePassive = be + past participle. The house is made from wood (present). The house was built in 1990 (past). We focus on WHAT is done, not WHO does it.
• to + verbInfinitive of purpose answers the question WHY: She went to the shops to buy a new bag. (Not for buy.) Use to + base verb.
• directionsturn left, turn right, go straight, past the bank, next to the cafe, opposite the park. They help you find places.
• locationTo describe a location, say what is NEXT TO it, OPPOSITE it, IN FRONT OF it or BEHIND it.
• sequence wordsfirst, then, next, after that, finally show the ORDER of actions. Listen for them in instructions and stories.
• who, which, thatA relative clause gives more information: the teacher who teaches English; the book which is on the table. Listen for these clues to know exactly who or what the speaker means.
• processA process is a series of steps to make or do something. Many process texts use the passive: The paper is made from wood.
• freshFresh milk comes from the cow and has not been stored for a long time. Fresh means new, not old.
• connect itJoin short sentences with who, which, that, and, but, so, because. The girl is my cousin. She won the race. → The girl who won the race is my cousin.
• describe a processTo describe how something is made: use the passive (is made, are mixed) and sequencing words (First, Then, Finally).

Contoh ulasan PBD

Selepas murid bermain, Jejak TP English mencadangkan TP dan ulasan seperti di bawah. Guru menyemak, kemudian menyalin ulasan ke dalam rekod PBD.

TP1: Murid recognises a few basic words on relative clauses, prepositions and passive sentences with a lot of support. Suggestion: revise the word cards in Stop 1 with a friend and use pictures to remember the meanings.

TP2: Murid understands key vocabulary on relative clauses, prepositions and passive sentences but still makes basic grammar errors. Suggestion: practise short sentences using the target grammar every day.

TP3: Murid reads short texts on relative clauses, prepositions and passive sentences and finds specific details accurately. Murid achieves the expected target for this unit.

TP4: Murid understands spoken English on relative clauses, prepositions and passive sentences and identifies main ideas and specific details well. Murid is working towards exceeding the target.

TP5: Murid reads longer texts on relative clauses, prepositions and passive sentences, makes good inferences and guesses the meaning of unfamiliar words from context. Very good progress.

TP6: Murid uses English accurately and independently on relative clauses, prepositions and passive sentences, corrects errors and builds well-organised sentences. Murid exceeds the target and is an exemplary model to others.
